Re-registration for the Fourth or Fifth Year

If a doctoral student in the third year of their thesis cannot defend before the end of the current calendar year, they may request re-registration for a fourth or fifth year.

They must obtain authorization for re-registration based on the recommendation of the thesis supervisor and the dean of the doctoral school.

Re-registration in the fourth or fifth year constitutes an exception and must be accompanied by a well-justified and detailed request.

The doctoral student must submit to the doctoral school a file including the following documents:

• The thesis extension request form, to be completed and signed by the thesis supervisor(s).
• The opinion of the Individual Follow-up Committee (CSI);
• A letter from the thesis supervisor certifying the progress of the work and justifying the exception request;
• In the case of cotutelle, the student must also request an extension of the cotutelle agreement.

Re-registration in the Sixth Year

Re-registration in the sixth year is prohibited except in very exceptional cases, subject to a waiver from the Rector of the Lebanese University.
