Application
There are two ways to apply:
- 1- By directly contacting a researcher-teacher at the Lebanese University to collaboratively develop your research project. The candidate will then submit the topic to the EDST.
- By consulting the list of thesis topics on the EDST website and then contacting the researcher associated with the topic that interests you.
International joint doctorate of thesis
The Lebanese University supports our doctoral school in its internationalization efforts. In this context, it has signed more than 140 partnership agreements with higher education and research institutions in 13 countries, including 100 in France.
The principle of joint doctorate is as follows:
- The international join doctorate allows a doctoral student to complete their doctorate in Lebanon and in another country. They work in two research teams under the joint supervision of two thesis directors.
- Double registration is mandatory every year in each of the institutions during the entire duration of the thesis, but is only subject to a fee in one of the two universities (registration in the other university is exempt upon justification).
- A joint doctorate agreement must be established during the first year between the two universities to which the doctoral student will be affiliated. It specifies in particular the conditions for supervising the doctoral student, the alternating periods within each of the research teams, and the procedures for forming the defense jury.
- Obtaining a dual doctoral degree.
- A single defense.
The application file for the joint doctorate thesis must contain:
- 1- A CV detailing the academic and professional background.
- 2- A cover letter.
- 3- A thesis project prepared in agreement with the two supervisors mentioning the two host laboratories (one laboratory at the Lebanese University and the other at a partner university). This 5-page project (including bibliography) can be written in French or English. It must specify the context, the state of the art, the issues, the methodology, and the proposed work schedule.
- 4- A letter of agreement from each thesis supervisor.
- 5- A letter from the director of the foreign laboratory under which the supervisor operates, authorizing the reception of the candidate within his unit.
- 6- A certificate of success for the master's degree.
- 7- A scholarship certificate.
- 8- The transcripts obtained in L3, M1 as well as all those from M2 (except possibly the internship grade if it has not been obtained yet).
- 9- Two letters of recommendation are highly recommended. They must be sent directly to the doctoral school (edst@ul.edu.lb) by the signatories of the letter.
This file must be submitted to the EDST by coming directly to our campus in Hadath. It will then be evaluated by the scientific council of the EDST. Any incomplete file will be rejected.
